How to make your perfume last longer

Let’s face it: perfumes are expensive. We love their intoxicating scents, but we often have the impression that they run out too quickly. And for good reason, we tend to put back several spritzes during the day. Simply because the fragrance is ephemeral and never lasts long enough. How to avoid all these repetitive sprays to be able to make some savings? We’ve just discovered a trick to make your perfume “stick” to your skin a little longer. Discover it!

Finally, social networks are sometimes very useful: they can even become a real source of inspiration full of tips and little-known methods to simplify our lives. For example, recently, a TikTok user revealed a secret and infallible technique to make perfume smell longer. You should have thought of it!

How to make perfume last longer?

Her name is Erin Dugan, she specializes in beauty tutorials and she had the great idea of using a popular product we all know: Vaseline. We already knew that this texture is incredibly versatile and has many uses, especially in the cosmetic field, but did you know that this transparent gel could also allow you to make the scent of your fragrance last on the skin? This is exactly what the young blogger explains to all her followers on Tik Tok and Instagram.

The process is very simple: just apply a little Vaseline to the inside of your wrists, elbows or neck, and then spray the perfume on those same places. This way it will last longer.

Erin also assured that this tip also works great with body cream. Of course, the cologne or perfume should be applied before the cream is completely absorbed.

Did you know that the exact moment you apply a perfume also affects its duration? For example, if it is sprayed on when the pores are open, the perfume penetrates deeper and therefore the scent lasts longer. Ideally, the best time to wear perfume is right after showering, before moisturizing the skin with a moisturizer.

Another option to make that pleasant scent last on your skin? Simply spray the perfume on other areas than the body: a spray in the air so that the fragrance envelops you with its scent or a few drops on clothes (jackets, scarves, etc.). And that’s it!

It is also important to focus on the parts of the body that generate more heat such as the wrists, neck, forearms or behind the ears. If you spray these areas, the fragrance will last longer!

N.B.: if you want to perfume your hair, you can’t use your usual perfumes, as they will damage it over time. The best thing to do is to apply a specific mist so as not to damage the scalp.

Choosing the right fragrance

Some people are very loyal to their perfume and wouldn’t change it for anything. But, if you like to alternate or discover new fragrances, it is useful to follow some rules to make the right choice.

You need to consider not only the scent, but also its components, as the concentration of the fragrance is really crucial to whether the scent will last longer on the body. In fact, much of the staying power depends on the amount of essential oil used in the perfume.

Eau de parfum, in particular, contains a higher amount of essential oil, about 15%. While eau de toilette contains only 8%, followed by eau de cologne, which contains only 5%. That’s why eaux de parfum, which are much more expensive, are more intense and last about 5 hours. Unlike the lighter eaux de toilettes which last about 3 hours.

In addition, when choosing your perfume, you should keep in mind that citrus notes (such as lime, orange) tend to fade more quickly. While woody notes (such as cedar, vetiver, bamboo…) or other amber and musky notes (used as base notes), last much longer. It is therefore important to know the composition of each perfume to better define its longevity on the skin!
